Seeing bright young talent in the fashion world is always so exhilarating and can be just as exciting as seeing the new collections of our favorite designers. Ten designers from the School of Fashion at Academy of Art University in San Francisco got the opportunity of a lifetime, to show collections in the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. A few designs really caught our attention, so let us introduce you to those three designers to watch!
Nika Tang
From Berkeley, California, Niki Tang is an M.F.A Fashion Design student at Academy of Art University and her Spring 2014 Thesis Collection focuses on volume, movement and texture. The layers-upon-layers of ruffles fall gracefully on the figure, and her use of macrame details is divine. The skill that goes into tailoring such an immense amount of fabric is impressive, to say the least.
Gwen Shihyao Lai
From Taiwan, Gwen Shihyao Lai is an M.F.A. Fashion Design student with a superb eye for mixing patterns and colors. Her collection incorporates Ikat with menswear-inspired suits, burnout details and fabrics that range from cotton to silk. We were drawn to her use of exaggerated-yet-chill proportions.
Shanshan Bei and Winbo Shiau
Both from China, Shanshan Bei and Winbo Shiau make a dynamite team on the runway. Both M.F.A. students in Fashion Design, their skills in knitwear and creating impeccably sculptured silhouettes are a match made in fashion heaven.
